ABOUT PRANAYAMA
Pranayama, a foundational practice of Yoga, is the art of paying attention to our breath; of lengthening, expanding, or directing it, in order to still our minds and reach deeper levels of peace.
The way we breathe, has a direct effect in the way we think and feel. And viceversa. Paying attention to our breath is the most powerful and accessible tool to regulate our nervous system and generate a sense of peace.
Some benefits of Pranayama practice include:
Increased cardiovascular health
Increased respiratory health
Decreased stress levels
A calm mind
A balanced nervous system
Deeper inner awareness
A way to prepare for meditation
Improved digestion and elimination
Mastery over the mind and emotions
Increased energy levels
WHAT OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS SAY
I started practicing yoga with this community in 2018. I was afraid of being too old to start. Today the community feels like belonging to a family. Over 7 years my yoga practice has enhanced my emotional health & supported my back pain. Ary
“In Ashtanga you are here and now. There is you, your breath, and your body. For me, the practice of Ashtanga Yoga has become truly healing, not only for my body but, above all, for my mind. And it continues to be so. Katia
Why do you practice Ashtanga Yoga?
It helps me understand my body and my mind.
It helps me feel my body becoming strong and flexible. Mysore practice helps me stay more focused in the present moment.
Physical and emotional strength! It connects my mind and body. Every time I practice I truly feel like I am growing. This moving meditation challenges me and teaches me to meet my body (and often my mind) where it is. Ashtanga asks me to be aware. I actually find it quite difficult to put into words!
It’s a practice with which I’m learning to connect, trust and challenge my body and mind. It's a time to slow down, to disconnect from the outside noise and focus on myself.
To connect with my body and feel more clarity mentally.
I like it, it grounds me through the busy schedule. I feel more aligned and energized and after practice I feel really good.
Self-care and discovery, love for myself and in a larger scale love for humanity.
